Bryan Singer Teases 'X-men: Apocalypse'; New 'Days of Future Past' Viral and Photos
The reach of Marvel's tentacles goes far beyond the Avengers universe, it spreads to 20th Century Fox and their revitalized X-men franchise. The architect behind it is the returned Bryan Singer, who will bring X-men: Days of Future Past to theaters this summer, which will then be followed in 2016 by X-men: Apocalypse, a very loose adaptation of the classic Age of Apocalypse storyline.
Singer, along with writers Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris, and Michael Dougherty, have begun to develop the story for 'Apocalypse' already. While we know that it will include the titular villain and deal with the origins of mutantkind, Singer and Kinberg have teased a few more plot details in a chat with EW.
First up, Singer says 'Future Past' won't necessarily lead directly into 'Apocalypse', but will definitely set aspects of it up....
Singer: "You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we'll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen."
He went on to expound a little on this idea of exploring mutants' pasts, which is perfect for Apocalypse who is recognized in the comics as the very first mutant....
Singer: “ 'Apocalypse' deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?”
He also goes on to note that, unlike the comics storyline Age of Apocalypse, the film won't necessarily be fracturing into alternate universes, revealing that it will focus mainly on the X-men: First Class team rather than the huge 'Future Past' roster.
Meanwhile, Kinberg promises things are only going to get bigger from here....
Kinberg: "From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there'll be disaster movie imagery. Like the title would imply."
But before they get to 'Apocalypse', the X-men must survive 'Future Past', and a new viral video shows mutants have been a big part of history for a long time. We've seen viral teasers weaving mutants into the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK's assassination, and other major events before, but this footage puts it into a clearer focus. Most notably, Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage) and Trask Industries are at the heart of pretty much everything. Check that out below, plus some new images. X-men: Days of Future Past opens May 23rd.
