It's been a handful of years since David Fincher's unique visual style graced the screen, and that was when he provided his own spin on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Before that was The Social Network, a film that probably wouldn't have earned the accolades it did without him steering the ship. But now Fincher is back in familiar dark and moody thriller territory for an adaptation of Gillian Flynn's wildly popular novel, Gone Girl, and the first trailer has finally arrived.
Starring Ben Affleck in the last film we'll see him in before he dons the Bat-suit, the film centers on investigation surrounding the disappearance of his wife (Rosamund Pike) on their 5th wedding anniversary. Along with the trailer comes the first poster, done in the style of a news report, fitting since everybody seems to be in on the search for "Amazing Amy". The big question is whether the popularity of Flynn's book will lead to box office success, or if this will be the second straight Fincher adaptation that underwhelms.
Also starring Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, and Carrie Coon, Gone Girl will be released on October 3rd, prime Oscars slotting.
