The story of blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo is headed to the silver screen, and it was just a few months ago we learned it would be Bryan Cranston portraying him with Jay Roach (Game Change) directing. Now it looks as if Helen Mirren may be coming aboard to play Trumbo's wife, Cleo.
Variety reports Mirren has entered talks for the role of Cleo, who stood by Dalton's side after he was blacklisted when he refused to testify in front of Senator McCarthy's House Un-American Activities Committee. Trumbo had been considered one of Hollywood's great writers at the time, but continued to work under pseudonyms, winning Oscars for Roman Holiday and The Brave One.
Mirren only recently played Alfred Hitchcok's wife in Hitchcock. No word on when Trumbo will begin filming as it's still looking for a distributor. The combo of Cranston and Mirren should make finding one a lot easier.
