New U.S. Trailer for 'The Immigrant' with Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Renner, and Joaquin Phoenix

It's crazy to think that six years have passed since James Gray's vastly underrated Two Lovers, and in that time there has been a definite void left by his absence. Last spring he returned to Cannes with the star-studded period drama, The Immigrant, receiving mixed reviews and what looked like a VOD release from Weinstein. But fortunes have changed; a proper theatrical release is on the way and now a domestic trailer to go along with it.

Starring Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Renner, and Joaquin Phoenix, this look at the American Dream follows a polish immigrant (Cotillard) who arrives in this country with her sister only to be left alone. In desperate straits, she's forced into prostitution by the charismatic Bruno (Phoenix), until a suave magician (Renner) offers her a way out. The historical trappings are richly detailed and the performances seem dead on, as one might expect from this cast, so it's a wonder why there has been so little buzz.

The Immigrant gets a limited release on May 12th.
