Mark Ruffalo Says a Hulk Solo Film is Being Considered
Depending on the day of the week, Marvel is either gung-ho for a solo Hulk movie or against it. After a couple of less-than-fruitful movies, one starring Eric Bana and the other with Ed Norton, Joss Whedon found just the right pitch for the character in The Avengers, and it helped to have Mark Ruffalo in the role of Bruce Banner. The character has skyrocketed in popularity of late, and at least according to Ruffalo the Hulk may be getting a third shot to go it alone.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy about his upcoming film, Begin Again, Ruffalo says Marvel are considering the notion of another Hulk movie, and more importantly that he'd be up for it...
Ruffalo: "I think they are, for the first time, entertaining the idea of it. When we did The Avengers it was basically 'No!', and now there is some consideration for it. But there's still nothing definitive, not even a skeletal version of what it would be. I look forward to going down that road, if we could crack that nut."
The Hulk is an interesting satellite character and Whedon wrote him brilliantly. He's considerably less interesting when used as the primary focus, and that has been a problem for decades on the comic book pages. We could be looking at a long time before Marvel "cracks that nut" for a Hulk film that can do the character justice.
