Originally created as a manga back in 1965, Lupin III has spawned a multi-faceted franchise of anime, video games, a 1974 live-action film, albums, and even a musical. In other words, people still love the adventures of the world's greatest thief, which bodes well for director Riyuhei Kitamura (
No One Lives) and his new film, the first live-action
Lupin III movie in forty years.
Shun Oguri dons the tailored suit of Lupin III, with Tetsuji Tamayama as his right-hand man Daisuke, and the story follows Lupin and his partners as they infiltrate the fortress-like Ark of Navarone. There they hope to steal the Crimson Heart of Cleopatra, an object said to grant the power to unite the world.
Lupin III opens in Japan on August 30th.
