'The Fault in Our Stars' Director Josh Boone in Talks for 'The Vampire Lestat' Reboot

It was mere days ago that Universal began the process of revamping (pun intended?) Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles for the big screen by renewing their option for all of her books, and already they have a guy in mind to do just that. According to The Wrap, The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is being eyed to reboot the franchise with Lestat, based on the second book in her thirteen book series.

Boone, who is already set to direct an adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand, would write and direct the film which would be a combination of The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned, the final two pieces of Rice's original trilogy. The first was Interview with the Vampire, which was adapted into a 1994 film starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, and Kirsten Dunst. In 2002 it was the late singer Aaliyah and Stuard Townsend who starred in Queen of the Damned. Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci are lending their producing muscle to this one, just as they are Universal's relaunch of classic movie monsters. This would seem to fit right in with that mandate.

Next up for Boone will be The Stand, while Rice's next vampire novel is Prince Lestat, hitting bookshelves this fall.
