Anna Kendrick Can Do Better in First Clip from Musical ''The Last Five Years'

Anna Kendrick first showed her musical talents in the talent show comedy, Camp, and has been putting her voice to good use ever since. Obviously Pitch Perfect and its soundtrack were a huge hit, powered largely by her, and the sequel will likely do even better. But she's also got Disney's star-studded Broadway adaptation of Into the Woods, and one film many people probably haven't heard of, the low-budget indie musical The Last Five Years.

Having just premiered at TIFF and picked up by Radius-TWC for distribution, a first clip from the film has been released and...well...music is subjective, right? Directed by Richard LaGravanese (Beautiful Creatures) and based on Jason Robert Brown's play, the story explores the five-year relationship between a struggling actress and a popular writer.  Kendrick is fully in the spotlight in this clip while her co-star, stage actor Jeremy Jordan, kinda gets to hang out and listen.

I'm all for musicals, heck, Begin Again was one of my favorite movies of the summer, but this does not look impressive at all. Then again I said the same thing about Pitch Perfect once and was completely wrong about that.  The Last Five Years opens next year on Valentine's Day.
