*UPDATE* It looks like Joe Carnahan's pimping of his film Stretch has paid off. Deadline reports the film will get a VOD release next month courtesy of the folks at Blumhouse, who have begun a new label called BH Tilt that focuses on multi-platform releases. So where the heck is Joe Carnahan's much buzzed-about film Stretch, anyway? It was supposed to be released way back in March, but that was before Universal took a look at the small-budget flick and figured the marketing investment was a bit steep. That's despite a cast that features Patrick Wilson, Chris Pine, Jessica Alba, Brooklyn Dekker, James Badge Dale, Ray Liotta, and David Hasselhoff in a film that sounds like a cross between Cosmopolis and Carnahan's Smokin' Aces. With no studio support, Carnahan is out there hyping the film himself, taking to Twitter and revealing the first photos.
Wilson takes the lead in this one, starring as “a down-on-his-luck chauffeur looking to relieve his debt by driving around a mysterious billionaire who drags him to hell and back." And judging by these photos he's in for one nightmare of a ride, including at least one instance of someone spray painting the word "cock" all over the limo interior.
Carnahan said some time back he wanted show the film at a festival later this year but so far it's not confirmed for anything. If it's not turning up at Sundance next year maybe we'll get lucky and Stretch will play at one of our festivals in the area. For more you can follow the film on Twitter here.
