Peter Berg to Direct 'Deepwater Horizon' as JC Chandor Exits
Three movies in and already JC Chandor is one of today's most accomplished filmmakers: All is Lost, Margin Call, A Most Violent Year; all showed his ability to jump from genre to genre without missing a beat. He had been developing his fourth film, Deepwater Horizon, but it looks like he's out and a very different director has stepped in.
Chandor has exited the film due to that old chestnut "creative differences", replaced by Peter Berg. Perhaps it has something to do with star Mark Wahlberg wanting to reunite with his Lone Survivor director and make this film more of a big time action movie? The film is based on the true events surrounding the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20th 2010.
Deepwater Horizon is due to hit theaters on September 30th 2016.
