Rose Byrne Returning for 'X-men: Apocalypse'; Simon Kinberg Talks Crossover with 'Fantastic Four'
Charles Xavier couldn't possibly have built the X-men on his own. In the comics, one of his most important non-mutant relationships was with Moira MacTaggert, who did much of the research into mutant physiology. She was played by Rose Byrne in X-men: First Class, got her mind wiped at the end of it, and then was absent for X-men: Days of Future Past. But now she's coming back for X-men: Apocalypse at the perfect time when we know young versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm will be appearing played by Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, and Alexandra Shipp.
Simon Kinberg confirmed to EW of Byrne's return for the film, calling her "a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them.”
Don't expect her amnesia to last, though, because there's great dramatic potential in her reaction once she finds out what happened.
Kinberg was asked, for about the millionth time, about the potential for a crossover between the X-men and Fantastic Four, and again leaves the door open for it to happen...
Kinberg: “The reboot of FanFour really needed to work in and of itself. We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie. If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could. There’s a lot of precedent from the comics.”
X-men: Apocalypse opens May 27th 2016.
