If there is one actor in Hollywood that is impossible to pin down it's Mark Duplass, the guy is an indie hero with the films he and his brother have put out, a frat guy humor God with his work on The League, and now he's taking on the leading man in a horror film. Talk about diversification. Speaking off, the entire cast of The Lazarus Effect seems somewhat out of place, you have Olivia Wilde who has done some genre bending but it most comfortable in the funny hot girl role, Donald Glover who came to fame with the underrated Mystery Team and really made his mark on Community and the aforementioned Mark Duplass. They may seem out of place, but if this two minute clip can show us anything it's that they are more than capable.
I think it's near impossible to discuss this movie without bringing up the obvious parallels to the cult hit Flatliners. Though this film seems to take the same basic principals and amp up the demonic "caught between two worlds" aspect. While I'm sure this flick won't have a lasting impact on cinema at large I'm fairly certain now that it's going to cause some disturbance in my sleep for at least a few nights. Check out the trailer below and remember that basic rule that's consistently taught by Hollywood, what is dead should stay dead.
The Lazarus Effect hits theaters on February 27th, 2015
