Trailer Debuts for Ryan Gosling's 'Lost River' starring Christina Hendricks

More often than not when an actor makes the transition to becoming a director it can be a bumpy ride, but does it cause critics to judge the film more harshly? Ryan Gosling pulled a pretty bold move by debuting his directorial debut, Lost River, at Cannes last year and the dark fantasy film was basically torn apart with bad reviews. Was it a knock against Gosling? Or did he just not make a very good movie? That Warner Bros. has decided to only release it on home video this spring is probably not the best sign.

Whatever the case, the first trailer for the film has been released and while it's got a mood similar to the style of Gosling's pal, Nicolas Winding Refn, it's hard to tell exactly what is going on. Starring Christina Hendricks, Iain De Caestecker, Matt Smith, Ben Mendelsohn, and Saoirse Ronan, the film centers on a mother and son who discover an underwater utopia.

Lost River is expected to be released in April.
