It has been awhile since Oliver Stone has been taken seriously enough as a director that one of his films has been an Oscar contender. Movies like Wall Street 2, Savages and W. certainly weren't going to help his cause in that regard, but maybe Snowden will be the film that turns things around because the first image has dropped and it suggests Stone is taking the whistleblower's story very seriously.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is seen as Edward Snowden in this photo, back during his brief time as a reservist in the U.S. Army. Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, Melissa Leo, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Olyphant, Rhys Ifans, Keith Stanfield, and Nicolas Cage co-star in the film which looks to tell Snowden's complete story before he became infamous for leaking NSA documents.
Snowden hits theaters on Christmas Day.
