Paul King Eyes 'The Current War'; Daniel Espinosa Takes on 'Morningstar'
The Current War is potentially a prestige, awards-quality film, which explains why so many have taken an interest in it. Timur Bekmambetov, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sacha Baron Cohen, and most recently Ben Stiller have circled the project at various stages, but now it looks like Paddington director Paul King is in the running to take the helm. The film features a Black List script by Michael Mitnick that centers on Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse's competitive rivalry to create the world's first stable electric current. We'll see if King is the right guy to finally give The Current War a stable presence. [FilmDivider]
Daniel Espinosa (Snabba Cash, Child 44) will take on his first sci-fi flick with Morningstar, a project being set up at Warner Bros. so you know it will be big. David Birke wrote the screenplay but no plot details are available. All we know is that it will involve "world building", which makes it sound like it could be on par with Inception. We shall see, and it will be interesting to see what Espinosa can do with a film of larger scope. [TheWrap]
