'Tron Legacy' Sequel to Begin Filming this Fall; Garrett Hedlund and Joseph Kosinski Returning

Gran Turismo fans may be waiting awhile longer for their favorite video game to hit the big screen. It was only last week that Sony hired Joseph Kosinski to direct the racing film, but now he may be busy with another video game world in a sequel to Tron Legacy.

News on Tron 3 has been scarce for years, although at last report Kosinski would be returning to direct it, with star Garrett Hedlund also returning. Now a story at Vancity Buzz says Disney has green lit the film with production to begin this fall in Vancouver. Other outlets have since chimed in to confirm it, and obviously this is going to take top priority for Kosinski, assuming he really is sticking around. But what about Jeff Bridges or Olivia Wilde? Could they be convinced to come back? And before you say Bridges' character was killed in the last film, just remember this is the video game universe of Tron we're talking about. It's never really game over until you run out of quarters.

For awhile it looked as if Disney had quietly shelved plans for Tron 3. Tron Legacy cost a mint, right around $170M, and pulled in about $400M worldwide. Those are decent numbers but hardly great, so a sequel was far from a sure thing. Apparently they figured the risk is worth it.
