When the original X-men films finally gave us a chance to see the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Beast on screen, it was tempered by the fact he was played by Kelsey Grammer and didn't do much but talk politics. >yawn< Thankfully, that hasn't been the case since Nicholas Hoult took over the role in X-men: First Class and again in X-men: Days of Future Past. Not only has he seen plenty of action but his friendship with the blue-skinned Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) has been a highlight. So why is Hoult talking like we won't see much more of Beast after 2016's X-men: Apocalypse?
E! Online caught up with Hoult at SXSW where he told them his time as a mutant is running out.
"This is the last one I'm signed up for", he said, but he also seems more than open to a contract extension.
"The first one did so well and [Days of Future Past] got received so brilliantly. It's like, 'Wow, people really want to see the films' and the best thing is it's a great crew and cast to work with and he's a fun character. I have a good time playing him so I'd keep making them."
Beast is expected to play a larger role in X-men: Apocalypse as his obvious attraction to Mystique gets explored further. Could it also, perhaps, be a way to write him out of the franchise? Let's hope not.
