Asa Butterfield the Rumored Frontrunner for Marvel's Spider-Man
With Avengers: Age of Ultron coming up this week, the attention is already turning (not towards Ant-Man) but Captain America: Civil War, where Marvel is expected to debut their new Spider-Man. We've heard a couple of rumors about the title, and a shortlist of contenders emerged a few days ago. If the latest rumor is true, Marvel may already have their hearts set on an actor to be their next Peter Parker.
A rumor at Latino Review says Hugo and Ender's Game star Asa Butterfield is Marvel's top choice for Spider-Man. He'd be beating out a group that includes Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Liam James, and Timothee Chalamet, probably because he has more franchise experience than the rest. Marvel apparently "liked him from day one", so maybe this is further along than we know. Butterfield's next role is in Tim Burton's adaptation of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
So it looks as if things are in motion for Marvel's Spider-Man. The character will appear in next year's Captain America sequel before the solo Spider-Man film arrives on July 28th 2017.
