One could argue that 20th Century Fox has made a colossal error in judgement releasing a trailer for Fantastic Four while the attention is clearly focused on Star Wars and Batman v Superman. Did they do it because they knew audiences' focus was split? Or does it show a tremendous amount of confidence in the film Josh Trank is about to deliver?
Whatever the case, that new trailer offers us the best look at the team dynamics yet, with Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Michael B. Jordan all interacting throughout. We also get a look at underrated character actor Reg E. Cathey (The Wire) as Dr. Franklin Storm, and Toby Kebbell as Victor Domashev, the man who will become Doom.
Visually it continues to resemble Trank's directorial debut, Chronicle, which isn't at all a bad thing, but many will take exception that it doesn't feel as "big" as the Avengers movies. That's not really Trank's style, and he's tailored the Fantastic Four to what he does best. Seems like a sound idea to me. Fantastic Four opens on August 7th.
