Dominic Cooper to Star in AMC's 'Preacher' Series

AMC's Preacher is close to snagging yet another veteran of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They already have Ruth Negga, who has a recurring part on Agents of SHIELD, and now they are nearing a deal for Howard Stark himself, Dominic Cooper, to take the lead role of Jesse Custer.

Cooper had been rumored to be one of the final contenders for the role some weeks ago, but now he's close to signing on to the adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's comic series about a small town preacher who is merged with the powerful angel/demon entity Genesis, giving him the ability to command others to do whatever he wants. Custer embarks on a vengeful journey across America in order to ultimately confront God.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are developing the series and will direct the pilot from a script by Sam Catlin. They've been rounding out the final cast for awhile now, recently adding Lucy Griffiths (True Blood) as Emily, Jesse's right-hand gal and a no-nonsense single mother of three. Negga plays Tulip O'Hare, Ian Colletti is the appropriately-named Arseface, and Joseph Gilgun is the Irish vampire Cassidy. Preacher is expected to air on AMC in 2016. [TheWrap]
