Dwayne Johnson Lends his Singing Voice to Disney Musical 'Moana'
Ever heard Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's rendition of Smackdown Hotel? If so, then you know he can do more than just Rock Bottom fools to the mat, he can play a guitar and sing a little, too. Well now he's taking on a new project at Disney that will let him put one of those talents to good use.
Johnson hit Instagram today to confirm that he'll take the lead voice role in Disney's animated musical, Moana, and it's a role that will require him to sing. He'll be voicing the demigod Maui in the film which is set to hit theaters in November 2016. Here's what he had to say:
"At DISNEY STUDIOS signing contracts to play the male lead in their next big classic animated musical, #MOANA. Just had an amazing 2hr presentation and it's easy to see why they're the greatest story tellers in the world. Im excited. And in the background my homies Fred & Wasabi from #BigHERO6 are jumpin' for joy joy cause they heard I'm gonna sing in the movie. #WeTrulyKnowWhereWereGoing #WhenWeUnderstandWhereWereFrom #NeverForgetHome #MOANA"
Here's a synopsis for Moana, which is based in Polynesian myth:
"In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore."
Johnson can be seen this weekend as Agent Hobbs in Furious 7.
