George R.R. Martin Developing HBO Series Set in TV's Golden Age
George R.R. Martin has been keeping his loyal but increasingly impatient fans waiting a long time for his next book, "The Winds of Winter", so the Game of Thrones is making a few changes. Not only is he staying away from scripting any season six episodes of the HBO series, but he won't be attending the WonderCon convention this year in order to focus on getting the book done. While he has been nice enough to release a preview of "The Winds of Winter' (which you can read here), Martin is also developing a new series at HBO that has nothing to do with Game of Thrones.
Martin is in the early stages of developing a series tentatively titled Captain Cosmos, and its subject matter is as far from Westeros as it possible can be. Set in 1949 during the dawn of TV's golden age, the show centers on a sci-fi writer who pens big, ambitious stories no one else would dare. Michael Cassutt (Z Nation) is writing the pilot and it doesn't look as if this is something that will eat up too much of Martin's time. It's certainly a subject Martin should have some familiarity with, and chances are he sees himself as the writer at the center of the series.
So chill out, folks. Martin may have a new gig but he seems to be pouring every ounce of his time into finishing the book by 2016. [THR]
