Ice Cube Joins with 'Black-ish' Creator for Comedy Film 'White Boy Problems'
It's a pretty good time to be Ice Cube right now. The rapper-turned-actor will get to watch his son portray him in the N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, and he's also recently signed a deal to return for Barbershop 3. Now he's hooked up with MGM and New Line for a new comedy film from Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and The Goldbergs exec-producer Alex Barnow.
Barris (who wrote Barbershop 3) and Barnow sold the pitch for White Boy Problems, which centers on a hapless, disrespected white guy who wakes up with the angry gangsta voice of Ice Cube in his head, commanding that he take back his life. It's a familiar premise to have a character with a "guardian angel" voice in their head, but this is a twist on the idea that should be hilarious. I can already see somebody like Josh Gad in the lead role.
Barris and Barnow sold the pitch and will write the screenplay, with Deadline saying the film's title is likely going to change for some reason. So Dear White People is okay but White Boy Problems isn't? Whatever. So the good times keep going for Cube, who also has Ride Along 2 and 23 Jump Street on the way.
