Is Sony Planning a Female-Led '21 Jump Street' Spinoff?
Is Sony's new plan to simply simply spinoff their existing franchises into female-led films? We've heard talk of a female Spider-Man movie, Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters has certainly captured America's attention, and now there are rumors of a 21 Jump Street spinoff driven by actresses.
The rumor surfaced at The Tracking Board who say Sony has hired Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs, writers on the Comedy Central series Broad City, to pen a spinoff based on the movies starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. They don't offer up much detail beyond that, which leaves us to wonder whether this will follow new characters or previously established ones. Dakota Johnson and Rye Rye played the antagonistic female cops in 21 Jump Street, but they didn't show up for the sequel.
Sony's 21 Jump Street universe is getting bigger, it seems, and with a possible Men in Black crossover being discussed nothing is out of the realm of possibility.
