What's Furious 7's box office right now? $1.3B? Audiences love Vin Diesel, obviously, when he's part of that franchise, but his track record with other films has been spotty. Lionsgate is hoping to turn that around with The Last Witch Hunter, which they hope will be Diesel's next big thing.
Directed by Breck Eisner (The Crazies) and co-starring Game of Thrones' gorgeous Rose Leslie (Ygritte come back!), the film features Diesel as the titular witch hunter who must stop a coven from destroying modern day New York City. How's he supposed to do that without Tyrese Gibson by his side? Good thing he's got a badass flaming sword.
This looks like some weird hodge-podge of The Mortal Instruments, XXX, and Game of Thrones, a combination probably won't work. But you never know, Diesel managed to build a decent Riddick franchise practically out of nothing. Maybe he can do the same thing here.
The Last Witch Hunter opens October 23rd with Michael Caine and Elijah Wood co-starring.
