I think that title image tells you just about everything you need to know about Mad Max: Fury Road. The film, which stars Tom Hardy and hits theaters on May 15th, is the continuation of the franchise which gave us Mel Gibson. For the uninitiated, the films take place in a post-apocalyptic Australia where gas is scarce and sanity is scarcer (not a word, I know..but it works with my tagline so deal with it).
I've never really known what to make of this film...the originals are considered classics by some so there was definitely a market but I just don't know how something like this is going to do in today's theaters. I get a gut feeling that we may be looking at one of the films that will end up on this years dud list. Pessimism aside the movie looks amazing, they've taken the vehicle and character design of the low-budget 80s films and added this amazing layer of color and style. The story is fairly simple, Max needs to help some girls cross the desert before the Skeletor looking fella gets to them, so the success of this film hinges on one singular aspect...the action, the vehicular action if we're getting specific. If this trailer is an accurate representation of what we should expect then we are in for one HELL of a ride. The talent's there with Hardy and Charlize Theron in the leads, the look appears to be there, so here's hoping the execution comes through as well as it should.
