Now Disney's Developing a Live-Action 'Pinocchio'
Perhaps no lessons were learned from Roberto Benigni's disastrous attempt at a live-action Pinocchio? The film that still haunts his career thirteen years later? We've seen multiple attempts to try again over the years from the likes of Guillermo Del Toro, Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr., Shawn Levy, and Tim Burton, but none of them have gone anywhere. Now Disney is ready to give it a shot, and why shouldn't they given their recent track record adapting animated classics?
Deadline says you can now add a live-action Pinocchio to the growing list of films that already includes Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, and Cinderella. The studio also has updated takes on The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, and Winnie the Pooh on the way.
Peter Hedges, who wrote and directed the underrated Katie Holmes film Pieces of April, will be penning the screenplay which is described as "Pinocchio-inspired". So maybe this won't be a straight-up adaptation? We'll probably have a better idea what to expect once a director is found.
