In a way it makes complete sense that Olivia Munn, who won the adoration of fanboys on a geek show like Attack of the Show, would now find herself in a comic book movie. But surely nobody could have predicted she'd be playing the English/Asian telepathic ninja with the purple hair, Psylocke, in X-Men: Apocalypse.
If that description of Betsy Braddock aka Psylocke sounded convoluted, it's because her history is a complete mess. Created by legendary X-men scribe Chris Claremont, Psylocke was originally an English precog, but after falling through the dimensional rift known as the Siege Perilous she re-emerged as a badass Asian telepath with serious ninja skills. How'd that happen? It involves all kinds of body swapping and mystical powers and other stuff that didn't make sense then and still doesn't to this day.
Bryan Singer made the announcement as he typically does, but he failed to reveal which version of Psylocke we'd be getting. Presumably the Asian butt-kicker version who also spent time as a member of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen. With Archangel (Ben Hardy) and Gambit (Channing Tatum) also in the film those are three X-Men that have been turned to the dark side. Heck, you could even count Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) who actually became Apocalypse for a time.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27th 2016.
