Phil Lord and Chris Miller Sought to Direct 'The Flash'?

Given that every film they've ever done has been box office gold, it's no surprise that Phil Lord and Chris Miller are mentioned for every big project. The duo behind 21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs are at the top of every studio's list, and because of that we could be seeing a battle erupt between Warner Bros. and Sony who want them for major franchise flicks.

According to Latino Review and backed-up by The Wrap's Jeff Sneider, Warner Bros. wants the pair to direct The Flash, which we haven't heard much about since Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) was named as the costumed speedster. This obviously has nothing to do with the hit TV series, but is for the 2018 film that is part of the larger DC cinematic universe. The character may appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will certainly be part of the Justice League lineup.

Lord and Miller know Warner Bros. well having worked with them on The Lego Movie, but they've found equal success with Sony on a pair of 'Cloudy' and 'Jump Street' movies. So there's a bit of a problem because Sony wants them to direct a future Ghostbusters movie with that franchise being relaunched again. Even though they turned down the job last year that was before Paul Feig came along with his all-girl film, and before Channing Tatum began developing another spinoff for the guys. Have all the changes made a Ghostbusters film more appealing?

So how much should we read into any of this? As mentioned before, Lord and Miller are the top choice for everything, and they may not have any legit interest in The Flash at all. They may not want anything to do with Ghostbusters, either. Right now their series The Last Man on Earth is airing on Fox, and they helped build an entire 'Lego' franchise with multiple films on the way. Chances are a decision is going to be made very soon on their next move, and really the winners are the fans no matter what they choose.
