Ryan Phillippe Teases Role in a Marvel/Netflix Series
Sometimes actors will put their name out there for a major role as a way of getting a little attention. It happens, especially nowadays with so many superhero films and TV shows out there sucking up all the air. Being considered for one of them is a good way to be instantly relevant. Whether that's happening right now with Ryan Phillippe is anybody's guess, but he says he's up for a role in a Marvel Netflix series.
Phillippe revealed the news on Howard Stern (via BleedingCool) today, saying he's in talks for a role but doesn't say as who are for what series. While AKA Jessica Jones probably has all of its major roles filled at this point, Iron Fist hasn't begun casting at all. Could he possibly be up for the lead role of kung fu master Danny Rand? It could be anything, really. He could take a small part in the second season of Daredevil, or possibly play a villain. Or maybe he'll be a supporting character on Iron Fist rather than the lead?
Who knows? Phillippe is currently starring in the ABC series Secrets and Lies, but to the best of my knowledge it hasn't been confirmed for a second season. Given ABC's connection with Disney and Marvel, Phillippe may be telling the truth. He certainly wouldn't be my first choice for Iron Fist (or second or third or fourth...) but what do you think?
