Scarlett Johansson May Star in Universal's 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' Remake
Perhaps one cinematic universe simply isn't enough for Scarlett Johansson? The Avengers: Age of Ultron star, who will likely be sticking around for more Marvel flicks, is now Universal's top choice to star in a remake of Creature from the Black Lagoon, which is part of their Universal Monster franchise that began with Dracula Untold.
The report surfaced over at The Tracking Board, saying Johansson has been offered the female lead. So obviously she's not going to be playing the titular swamp monster. The original 1954 film was directed by Jack Arnold and is considered a horror movie classic. It followed a team of scientists who discover a fish/human hybrid creature in the Amazon swamps. It takes a liking to the one female on the team, played by Julie Adams in the role Johansson would likely fill.
All of that depends on whether Johansson is even interested. Just because she was offered doesn't mean she'll accept. No director is attached at this point but it does boast Gary Ross (The Hunger Games) as a producer and co-writer.
