You may have missed her she had such a small role, but in last year's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film we got a brief scene featuring Karai, played by Minae Yoji. Karai is an important character in the TMNT mythos and seeing her reduced to such a non-factor was disappointing, but that is apparently going to change in the upcoming sequel, although a new actress will be playing her.
According to Deadline, Brittany Ishibashi (Political Animals) will play Karai in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, replacing Yoji in the role. Karai has had many incarnations, and in most of them she's either depicted as Shredder's adopted daughter or his granddaughter. In the original comics run she was unrelated to him, and was actually of a higher rank within the evil Foot Clan organization. She also forges a love/hate relationship with the Turtles' leader, Leonardo.Ishibashi joins Megan Fox, Stephen Amell, Will Arnett, Tyler Perry, Gary Anthony Williams, William Fichtner, and Brian Tee, who will play the new Shredder. Directed by David Green, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 opens June 3rd 2016.
