First Look at Natalie Portman's 'A Tale of Love and Darkness'

Natalie Portman hasn't done much acting since her Oscar-winning performance in Black Swan, and it's clear her goals now include working behind the camera. She's directed a couple of shorts and produced a few films, including the upcoming Western Jane Got a Gun which she'll be be starring in. She's also set to hit Cannes with her feature directorial debut, A Tale of Love and Darkness, based on the best-selling autobiography by Amos Oz.

The first image features Portman, although the film also stars Makram Khoury, Gilad Kahana, and Shira Haas. Portman adapted Oz's memoir which recounts the famed novelist, intellectual, and journalist's childhood in Jerusalem and the forces that shaped his advocacy of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestine conflict. Portman will play Oz's mother, Fania.

A Tale of Love and Darkness has its world premier at Cannes later this month.
