With Lucasfilm and Disney expanding their Star Wars universe to include separate standalone films, it should come as no surprise they'd give one to the franchise's most popular character. Rumors have been going around for two years that one of the spinoffs would center on the mysterious bounty hunter, Boba Fett, and now we know it will be the film which recently lost director Josh Trank.
The Wrap confirms the news, reporting the 2018 film will tell Boba Fett's origin. Many details about the Mandalorian were spilled during the prequel films, and they didn't accomplish much except to destroy that great air of mystery surrounding the character. Whether Disney can deliver this story while keeping Boba Fett "cool" remains to be seen, but Marvel couldn't do it with Wolverine so....
The bigger deal now is finding a director to take over for Trank, who departed the film a few days under serious criticism for his demeanor.
