Shakespeare's Macbeth has been adapted so many times in so many different ways that hearing of a new film is no big deal. That's until you realize it stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, working with an up 'n coming director like Justin Kurzel (Snowtown), and based on the rave reviews out of Cannes the collaboration does not disappoint.
The first trailer for the Shakespearean tragedy shows a blood-covered Fassbender, not surprising since he's one of the Bard's most violent characters. Cotillard plays the cold and manipulative Lady Macbeth, and just judging by this she, and Fassbender, could be in line for awards consideration. Certainly that's on the minds of the film's producers, who also helped push The King's Speech to a Best Picture win.
Also starring Sean Harris, Elizabeth Debicki, Jack Reynor, Paddy Considine, and David Thewlis, Macbeth hits the UK in October but has yet to gain a US date.
