Tom Cruise goes Rogue in New 'Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation' Trailer and Character Posters

It pays to be friends with Tom Cruise. Certainly that has paid off for director Christopher McQuarrie, who takes over as director of Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation when his only successful directorial efforts were....ummm, oh, he didn't have any. He and Cruise teamed up on the disappointing Jack Reacher and co-wrote Edge of Tomorrow, but his only other film behind the camera was 2000's Way of the Gun. Normally, that's not the resume that gets you a plum gig like Mission: Impossible. So yeah, it pays to be cool with Cruise. Fortunately, the latest M:I flick looks like it could surpass the death-defying spectacle of the previous film.

A new trailer plus a slew of character posters have been released for Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation, which brings Cruise back as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Also returning are Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, and Jeremy Renner, joined by new faces Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris, and America Olivo. This time around, Hunt and his crew are sent to take out The Syndicate, a rogue terrorist organization looking to destroy the IMF.

Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation hits theaters on July 31st.
