Dwayne Johnson to Battle Giant Monsters in Classic Video Game Film, 'Rampage'

Maybe Dwayne Johnson didn't get enough city-wide destruction in San Andreas? Or maybe he just needs more of it with a little bit of monster mayhem thrown in for good measure? Johnson is teaming up with San Andreas producers for a live-action film based on the classic '80s arcade game, Rampage.

If all of this sounds familiar it's because the project was first revealed back in 2011, but hasn't been heard from at all until now. Ryan Engle (Non-Stop) will pen the screenplay which presumably will center on three gigantic monsters: George the gorilla, Lizzie the lizard, and a werewolf named Ralph, that are destroying the city while fighting off the military. In the game, the creatures are all mutated humans that had been experimented on in a lab. Will Johnson be one of the monsters or will he be part of the force trying to stop them?

No word on who will direct, but considering this comes from the San Andreas folks don't be surprised if Brad Peyton gets a phone call. Filming is being targeted for next summer after Johnson wraps on Fast & Furious 8.
