'Independence Day 2' Title, Plot, and Set Photos Revealed
Last night 20th Century Fox held a live Q&A event with Roland Emmerich and the cast of the long-awaited Independence Day sequel. While there were a few small details revealed, the biggest was the film's official, non-numerical title, and fairly forgettable title: Independence Day Resurgence.
Along with the new title come a pair of set photos, one of a special defense ship described as a Moon Tug spacecraft, and the other of Emmerich looking rather chipper in front of the craft. The story will take place in 2016, twenty years after the the last film's conclusion, and here's the brand new synopsis that fills the gaps on what's been going on:
We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
Featuring the return of Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Judd Hirsch, and Bill Pullman with newcomers Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Liam Hemsworth, Sela Ward, Joey King, Chin Han, and William Fichtner, celebrate our Independence Day Resurgence on June 24th 2016.
