First Look at Final 'Paranormal Activity' Film, 'The Ghost Dimension'

After six years, $800M at the box office, and probably millions more scares, the Paranormal Activity franchise is coming to an end. This Halloween brings the fifth and final movie in the vaunted low-budget horror franchise, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, and USA Today has the first photos plus some brand new plot details.

According to producer Jason Blum, the film will answer all of the franchise's deepest, darkest questions since the Katie demon first terrorized and murdered its way into audience nightmares...

"We couldn't go just teasing," says Blum. "All the questions that everyone has asked from the past Paranormal Activity films: What does Toby look like? What's the backstory to the families? These questions have been teased out. Now they will be answered."

The Ghost Dimension is directed by Gregory Plotkin and follows a brand new family who move into a home and discover a video camera and box of old video tapes. Rather than throwing them out like any smart family would do, they use the camera and see the supernatural activity happening all around them, including the young versions of siblings Katie and Kristi. Katie Featherston will return as the demonic older version of Katie.

In a slightly different visual twist, the video camera footage will be shown in 3D, a first for the franchise which has always prided itself on keeping costs down. Maybe it's a way to cash in a bit more after the franchise-low $90M box office for Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.

I have to admit, I'm a little sad to see it go. My wife and I had our first date seeing Paranormal Activity back in 2009, so it holds a special significance for me.

Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension opens October 23rd.
