Jason Statham Confirms His Return for 'Fast & Furious 8'

It's rare that a franchise gets stronger over time, but that is exactly what has happened with Fast & Furious. Furious 7 hit a series high with $1.5B, ranking it near the top of the all-time charts; pretty remarkable when you think of how everything began way back in 2001. And part of the reason for the last film's success was Jason Statham, who first appeared as villain Deckard Shaw in Fast 6. And it looks like he'll be coming back to make Vin Diesel's life miserable once again in Fast & Furious 8.

Access Hollywood (via Collider) caught up with Statham and he revealed his character is definitely returning, despite ending the last film locked up in a maximum security prison...

“We’re already talking about doing another one, Part 8. I’m a newcomer, I just got invited to the party in this last one, so it’s nice to know I’m going to be doing another.”

Of course, we all knew Shaw wasn't going to be locked up for long. Perhaps he'll be broken out with the help of his brother, Owen, played by Luke Evans? All we know about the sequel is that Diesel Dwayne Johnson, and the core characters are returning, and likely Kurt Russell's covert ops agent character. There may also be a scenery change to New York City in order, but given how global these movies are we may see multiple locations.

Fast & Furious 8 opens April 14th 2017, but who is going to direct?
