Kit Harington and Dakota Fanning Join Ensemble Western, 'Brimstone'

Earlier this year we began to hear about the talented ensemble being put together for Brimstone, a Western from Dutch director Martin Koolhoven. The film had gathered together Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce, fresh off starring in The Rover together, plus Mia Wasikowska and Game of Thrones' Carice Van Houten. And while that group is reason enough to get excited, unfortunately there has been a major shift at the top with two stars departing.

According to Variety, Kit Harington and Dakota Fanning have joined the film and they're taking the roles Pattinson and Wasikowska would have been up for. Also joining the cast are Wetlands star, Carla Juri, Paul Anderson (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) and Jack Roth. Fanning will star as Liz, a heroine on the run from her past and chased by a diabolical man known as the Preacher. Harington will play an outlaw.

Harington's Jon Snow character isn't expected to return for the next season of Game of Thrones, although speculation is that he won't be gone forever. Coincidentally, if and when he does return it will likely be because of Van Houten's character on the show, so maybe they can discuss the finer details of his return on set.

Filming on Brimstone is now underway, and despite the cast shuffling this is still a project worth keeping a close eye on.
