While there may be some recent rumblings about a sequel to David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the chances it will reunite the director with star Rooney Mara are still pretty slim. Fortunately, Fincher has no shortage of other projects cooking that could see a reunion with Mara, who famously had her breakout performance in The Social Network.
According to Jeff Sneider at The Wrap, Mara is in talks to join Fincher's remake of the British series, Utopia, which he's developing at HBO. The series will also see Fincher reteaming with Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn as she'll be writing the entire first season. Utopia centers on fans of a cult graphic novel known as "The Utopia Experiments" that has somehow been able to predict future disasters. When they discover the author's sequel and set out to prevent the next calamity, they are suddenly pursued by a mysterious organization known as "The Network".
It's unclear what Mara's role would be or even how deep in negotiations she is, but presumably we'll find out soon.
