Matthew Vaughn Teases a 'Kick-Ass' Sequel and Hit-Girl Prequel
Are there still Kick-Ass fans out there? After the first adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book series was an unexpected hit, basically taking a swipe at the entire superhero genre in the process, Kick-Ass 2 arrived with a great deal of fanfare. Unfortunately, it was pretty terrible and didn't perform as well at the box office. But there has still been some demand for more, either in a Kick-Ass 3 or some kind of Hit-Girl spinoff. Well, Matthew Vaughn agrees on both counts, revealing to Yahoo! that he's got plans for both.
After stating that he's “not happily done with the franchise”, Vaughn revealed that he really wants to continue the franchise, if only so that it doesn't end on such a down note...
“We’re working on an idea for a prequel of how did Hit Girl and Big Daddy become Hit Girl and Big Daddy.....If we make that, hopefully that will be the sorbet for the people that didn’t like ‘Kick-Ass 2’ and then we can go off and make ‘Kick-Ass 3. I think we’ve got to do this prequel to regain the love that we had with ‘Kick-Ass’.”
That's great, but would a studio be willing to back this attempted love fest Vaughn and Miller are hoping for? That might prove difficult. Vaughn has previously talked about bringing back Chloe Moretz and Aaron Taylor-Johnson to reprise their roles, even going so far as to float Gareth Evans (The Raid) as his top choice for director. That's one way to stir up some interest, but let's see if any of this actually happens.
