Omar Sy and Charlotte Gainsbourg Fight Deportation in New Trailer for 'Samba'
The Intouchables was more than just another comedy when it opened a few years ago. The film became a global phenomenon and helped introduce the world to the mega-talented Omar Sy who we've seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past and in Jurassic World, two movies that did fairly well at the box office. So how do writers/directors Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano follow-up such a smash hit? With the immigration comedy, Samba, and a new trailer for it is here.
Reuniting with Sy and joined by Tahar Rahim (A Prophet) and Charlotte Gainsbourg (Nymphomaniac), Samba centers on a Senegalese immigrant fighting against his deportation from France. Here's the full synopsis:
Samba reunites The Intouchables’ acclaimed directing duo, Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, with award-winning actor Omar Sy in a richly entertaining chronicle of an undocumented kitchen worker battling deportation from his adopted home in Paris. When Samba (Sy) is suddenly ordered to leave France, he enlists the help of Alice (Charlotte Gainsbourg), an emotionally vulnerable immigration advocate with little experience but plenty of heart. As the immigrant aspiring chef and the burned-out corporate executive tentatively explore an unexpected bond, they inspire each other to reinvent themselves in this vibrant comedy full of tender humor and heartfelt optimism.
Immigration was also an issue in The Intouchables, so this is clearly a topic the filmmakers feel passionately about. This looks like it could be a slightly more serious commentary on the issue. Samba hits theaters on July 24th.
