Coming on the heels of that Beyonce joining The Avengers nonsense, you'd think some movie news journalists would be a bit more careful. A few weeks ago the Internet got all energized at the idea of Selma director Ava DuVernay directing Marvel's Black Panther, or possibly Captain Marvel. Whatever. She wasn't the only name mentioned but she was the one that generated the most buzz and it seemed like a natural fit. Well, today a random Marvel fan site, the MCU Exchange, reported that DuVernay was officially on board for Black Panther. Would you take that as any kind of confirmation? No, you wouldn't, but a lot of people did.
So we've got Uproxx and Vanity Fair (who have since corrected themselves) and others running with the headline that DuVernay is the Black Panther director. It's not true....yet. Granted it may very well happen and personally I think it will. It just hasn't happened yet.
Of course, you know that when it does some will speculate that this was the film Beyonce was really intended for all along, right? Black Panther opens July 6th 2018 with Chadwick Boseman set to star.
