The real Reason why Rosario Dawson couldn't be Night Nurse in Marvel's 'Daredevil' Series

One odd change made to Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series was in the character portrayed by Rosario Dawson. In the show she's referred to as Claire Temple, when her character obviously bears a striking resemblance to another popular Daredevil character, the Night Nurse. And the change didn't come about for no good reason. It turns out that Marvel requested the character be altered because they have their own plans for the Night Nurse that go beyond the small screen.

At the Television Critics Association press tour, Daredevil season one showrunner Steven S. DeKnight revealed that he wanted Dawson's character to be Linda Carter, aka Night Nurse, but Marvel rejected that idea because they want to use her in a movie at some point. Here's what DeKnight said...

"The feature side had plans for her down the road, so that was the only time we ran into a conflict. So we just used another name.”

Here's where things get a little interesting. Rachel McAdams was recently rumored to be up for the female lead in Doctor Strange, opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Could her role possibly be as Night Nurse? The character has been around since the 1960s when she had a very soap opera-esque series titled Linda Carter, Student Nurse. In recent years she's become known as a secret physician for injured superheroes, operating out of her Chinatown office. During the 2007 Doctor Strange miniseries, The Oath, Carter and Strange became lovers for a time. It didn't last long, but there's always the chance Marvel hopes to rekindle that flame on the big screen.

Still, it would make more sense if McAdams were to play someone like Clea, Strange's frequent lover and disciple, whose ties to him are much deeper than one mere miniseries. So it may be that Night Nurse doesn't appear in Doctor Strange at all, but instead turns up elsewhere in the MCU. [via Slashfilm]
