Jennifer Lawrence Can't Get What She Wants in the Trailer for David O. Russell's 'Joy'

The third collaboration between Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell doesn't bear much resemblance to either Silver Linings Playbook or American Hustle. Titled Joy, the film is a fairly somber drama about the real-life woman Joy Mangano, a struggling single mother who struck gold when she invented the Miracle Mop. But before that happened she went through a lot of tough years, and the new trailer introduces us to them via a haunting chorale rendition of the Rolling Stones'  “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.

It's that score which powers much of the trailer, which zips us through Joy's troubled childhood, marriage, and divorce, ending with a shotgun blast and the words "My name is Joy, by the way". It's a different style of film than we're used to seeing from the generally upbeat Russell, but it looks like another winner of a role for Lawrence who won her first Oscar working with him. The film reunites her with Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper, while the rest of the cast consists of Edgar Ramirez, Elisabeth Röhm, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen.

Joy hits theaters on Christmas Day.
