While he may not be the biggest fan of the Comic-Con experience, Jesse Eisenberg isn't moving away from comics-related films anytime soon. Obviously he's set to play Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and judging by the recent trailer it's going to be one heck of a quirky performance. But he's also got American Ultra, an action comedy which already sounds like a comic book, and features comics heavily as part of the storyline.
The latest trailer basically resembles Jason Bourne if he and his girlfriend were stoned out of their minds. Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, reteaming once again after Adventureland (they'll also be in Woody Allen's film next year), play a stoner couple on the run when it's revealed he used to be part of a top secret government program. Here's the synopsis:
American Ultra is a fast-paced action comedy about Mike (Eisenberg), a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend, Phoebe (Stewart), is suddenly turned upside down. Unbeknownst to him, Mike is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent. In the blink of an eye, as his secret past comes back to haunt him, Mike is thrust into the middle of a deadly government operation and is forced to summon his inner action-hero in order to survive.
Also starring Connie Britton, Topher Grace, Tony Hale, John Leguizamo, Bill Pullman and Walton Goggins, with a script penned by Max Landis and directed by Nima Nourizadeh, American Ultra opens August 21st.
