Ryan Reynolds may be done with other superheroes after Deadpool, but he's certainly open to returning as the Merc with a Mouth. Perhaps in an X-Force movie? A couple of years ago a flurry of rumors surfaced that Jeff Wadlow would be writing an X-Force film, yet nothing was ever heard of it since. Perhaps 20th Century Fox got cold feet after Wadlow's Kick-Ass 2 tanked at the box office. And while we've heard reports that a New Mutants film is finally moving forward, if the X-Force film does happen Reynolds is open to being part of it.
At Comic-Con, Reynolds talked about the possibility of starring alongside Hugh Jackman one last time before the Aussie actor retires from the role after The Wolverine 3. Deadpool and Wolverine were both part of a recent incarnation of X-Force seen in the comics...
"I mean who wouldn’t want to spend more time with Wolverine? Hugh and I have such history together. I can’t imagine it’d ever happen in a stand-alone film, but if there was the right place and right time - wouldn’t it be great?"
The chances of Wolverine popping up in an X-Force film are small, so who could lead the team? Deadpool? Not a chance. Reynolds thinks the team's original leader, Cable, might be a better option...
"I always see Deadpool running against the grain for everything he does. He can’t possibly conform to any sort of leadership role. He always has to be the wild card. So you’d have to have someone like Cable running point on a team like X-Force. I'd love for that to be a next step that we take..."
Cable and Deadpool have a long and winding history, beginning as enemies (Cable beat him up and literally mailed him to his employer) before becoming close friends in the long-running comic book that bears their name. If the X-Force film ever does happen, and at this point it seems to be dead, don't be surprised if Deadpool is a part of it. Perhaps it's worth noting that Colossus, who is part of the Deadpool film rather unexpectedly, was also a member of X-Force at one point. [Comicbook]
