After months of verbal sparring with maniacal WWE superstar Stardust, Arrow star Stephen Amell returned to Monday Night Raw last night as an invited guest. As any wrestling fan knew, he wouldn't remain a spectator for long, and after taking a shove from Stardust it was Amell who literally hopped over the railing and sprung into the ring to attack him. The fight was quickly broken up by Neville and King Barrett, but the gauntlet had been thrown.
After a heated discussion with Triple H, Amell convinced him to green light a tag team match at WWE's SummerSlam PPV later this month. The match will team Amell with Neville against Stardust and King Barrett. Earlier rumors had The Miz, who previously had been talking smack to Amell, taking Barrett's spot but he will be occupied in an Intercontinental Championship match.
In the months leading up to the match, Stardust has been portrayed as obsessed with Amell's Arrow persona, believing him to actually be a superhero rather than just an actor. Stardust, who in reality is Cody Rhodes, son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes and brother to Dustin "Goldust" Rhodes, considers himself to be Arrow's arch-nemesis, even going so far as to rename his finishing move the "Queen's Crossbow".
Can I just say Amell's acrobatics just getting into the ring were pretty amazing? If Arrow ever gets cancelled (NEVER!!!) he might have a solid career as a WWE superstar.
SummerSlam takes place on Sunday, August 23rd.
